From the editor…
Hello everyone. Our wonderful Joy magazine publishing team (Jennifer Kornegay, Erika Tracy, Nancy Fields) has been extremely passionate about this magazine, and you can see the hard work in every issue. In good times and bad, these smart and talented women have produced a magazine that I am extremely proud of, and I am very happy that you, our readers, enjoy every issue.
Jennifer, Erika and Nancy will continue to work with the same spirit and dedication that I have respected and admired for years. Their tireless efforts have
produced a wonderful, creative and interesting magazine that is also always a magnificent visual delight.
Usually, my column gives you a preview of what you will read in each issue. Because of the great uncertainty that we are all dealing with during this difficult time, instead, I wanted to share a beautiful untitled poem that my good friend Maxine sent to me.
“And the people stayed home.
And read books, and listened,
and rested,and exercised,
and made art, and played
games, and learned new ways
of being, and were still. And
listened more deeply.
Some meditated, some prayed,
some danced.
Some met their shadows.
And the people began to think
differently.
And the people healed. And,
in the absence of people living
in ignorance, dangerous,
mindless, and heartless ways,
the earth began to heal.
And when the danger passed,
and the people joined together
again, they grieved their
losses, and made new choices,
and dreamed new images, and
created new ways to live and
heal the earth fully, as they
had been healed.”
