We understand how scary it is to find a lump or other problems with your breast.

 

It is human nature to immediately assume the worst, and although a lump or other breast problems are not always cancer, they should ALWAYS be checked by a healthcare professional. The sooner you check your breasts the better it is for your good health. We do know it can be overwhelming no matter what the situation.

We hope that the following information will serve as a guide for you, and help direct you to the best place possible for help.

 

NO INSURANCE UNDER AGE 40

  • Go to your local health department/Federal clinic.  Joy to Life Foundation works with all 67 counties in Alabama.  They will give you a free clinical breast exam.
  • They will call Joy to Life Foundaiton and request our voucher for recommended screenings i.e. mammogram, ultrasound, etc.
  • Joy to Life Foundation will send our voucher and pay for your screening invoices.
  • Should you need a biopsy, you may qualify for Joy to Life Foundation to pay for it.
  • If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, you will be enrolled with Medicaid to pay for treatment.

 

AGE 40 AND OVER WITH NO INSURANCE

  • Call you local health department and set an appointment to enroll in the Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.

 

COVERED BY INSURANCE

  • If you have breast issues or a lump, call your health care provider.

 

Please understand that not all breast issues are indicators of breast cancer, but all breast issues must be checked immediately by a health care professional.

BREAST SELF-EXAM

Breast self-exam (BSE) can help you become familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel.  This knowledge may help you identify any breast changes that should be promptly reported to your healthcare professional.  Many experts recommend that women do a monthly BSE.  Please download the FREE Shower Card and Breast Health Brochure -- it could save your life.
